Tooth Extractions

An extraction is where one or more of your teeth are removed. This is usually due to advanced gum disease, tooth decay, trauma or overcrowding of the teeth. If you are having an extraction, you will be advised to have something to eat prior to your appointment.

• At the appointment, your dentist will numb the area around the tooth/teeth to be removed using local anaesthetic.
• Once the area is fully numb, the dentist will use special dental instruments to remove the tooth/teeth. Once removed, you will be asked to bite on a biting pack to help subside any bleeding.
• Then once you’ve left the surgery you’ll need to return to light duties for the rest of the day, or go home and sit quietly.
